Driving a Car!

Buddies, here are some tips to drive your car during rain:

slow down! It takes longer to stop or adjust in wet weather.

Stay toward the middle lanes - water tends to pool in the outside lanes.

The Soccer World Cup

The Robot Soccer World Cup is divided into five divisions, starting with the Simulation league. This is for sophisticated computer games without the robot hardware, but with each team comprising eleven autonomous software programs called agents. The Small Robot league is five-aside on a 6.05 x 4.05m ‘field’, while the Middle Size Robot league plays teams of six on an 18 x 12m field. The Humanoid league caters for autonomous robots with a human-like body plan that e programmed with senses that duplicate those of real people. In this league, unlike the smaller ones above, the tasks of perception and world modeling are not simplified by programming. Then there’s the Standard Platform league, where all players have identical hardware and only the optimum computer programming can produce the winning advantage. These robots are fully autonomous on the field, having no external control. Despite the game format, Robot-cup 2010 is a serious business. Robotics teams from leading universities that include Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Oxford University and Osaka University are showing what the latest robot football stars can do.

The Robot

A robot is an automatic device that performs functions normally ascribed to human or a machine in the form of a human. Robotics involves a scientific study of robots. Basically there are two types of robots - fixed and mobile. At present robots are present in almost every field of work. Robots have become more and more popular in industrial and other fields and work faster than human beings. Robots can operate in any situation, even ones too uncomfortable or dangerous for humans to work in. Today, robots are taking over most of the manipulative, hazardous and tedious jobs in factories, mines, atomic plants, space ships, deep-sea vessels, etc. from man.

In India, the interest in robots and robotics began during 1980s. Works on robotics began in advanced educational institutions and research centers such as the Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, etc. Robots have been developed for welding, spray painting, radioactive fuel handling operations and so on. There are also some very small nano-metric-sized robots called nano-machines and some large ones like robonauts. All these are first generation robots and the second generation of robots, expected to arrive by 2015, would be truly versatile and intelligent as chimpanzees.

A Memorable Day!

Today, am so glad that I went into the EDS data center server management room. It was a kind of different experience for me and I was happy to learn something out of it. At the very entrance, I felt it so cold and those two hours, I felt as if I am living in a state of 2 degrees. Ah! How many devices properly stacked and a hell lot of connecting cables, CPU boards, PCB's, chips and so on. Never had I thought that data centers would be planned and maintained in such a neat manner. I was asked to take the backup of our project applications as there was some server activity lined up. I learnt a lot from the techie guys maintaining the server and it was very different from the usual work schedule. Just a memorable day indeed!

My Laptop takes a turn!

Hi friends, happy Sunday! Whenever I open my mailbox, there would be a hell lot of unread mails and it takes me at least an hour to open up one by one and to give in a suitable reply. I am least bothered to open my Spam folder and it so happened recently that in order to delete all those spam mails, I went to the folder. A mail's subject attracted me and that's it I opened the mail. Th sad part here is that my anti-virus just got expired and I have ordered a new pack to be installed. My laptop took a turn! After some 30 seconds, I noticed that something has went wrong and my laptop got affected by a Virus. At that moment, I gave a try to restart and it failed to boot up. I was in a maze. I really can't get to know what was wrong. The error thrown was some I/O device failure. Oh my God, then I called up the online support people and got my hard drive replaced. So guys, please beware while opening your mailbox. Never give in for spam mails.

Define Your Goals Effectively

Goals are precise and measurable objectives with exact time frames and targets. Goals are short-term steps toward our long-term vision. Goals are specific points along our journey to higher performance. They could be organization or team improvement objectives such as targets for cycle time, customer satisfaction, error or defect rates, new products or services, costs, or revenues. Personal goals could include targets such as income level or financial position, new home, car or other item, an academic or technical qualification, business we want to start, or position we want to reach.

Clear and powerful goals set priorities. They narrow the wide field of options and choices to those few activities that leverage our limited time and attention. They keep us focused on finding the shortest, most direct route to our destination. That means goals point out where not to go and what not to do as much as where we should go and what we should do. So clear goals lead to faster, clearer decisions, which move us more quickly toward our dreams.

Long-term goal setting has always been vaguely unsatisfying for me. I lean more naturally toward visioning. Part of the reason I am uncomfortable with long-term goal setting is because goals are shallow. Goals define what you want to have, not what you want to become. They are a means, not an end.

Another reason goal setting has been less satisfying is because I've never been very good at it. Most of the time frames on my projections, forecasts, and predictions are wrong. I suppose I should ask for a refund on my cloudy crystal ball. But through persistence and staying true to my course, I've eventually reached and then reset many of my visions. I've generally got to where I wanted to go and became the person I wanted to become. But it was always through a different route than I first expected to take. I guess that's called learning.

So there's the paradox of goals. I believe in personal, team, and organization goal setting. I continue to set goals. And I continue to help leaders set goals and objectives for themselves, their teams, and their organization. Goals are targets that help us immensely in moving from a general vision to a specific set of priorities and actions.

SSRS Approach

If you’re a seasoned writer of SRSS reports (or any type of RDBMS reporting system), you’ll be used to trawling through databases, tables, fields and indexes to deliver that right combination of headings and columns which present the underlying data as your users want to see it. Well, here’s a report that doesn’t involve any of that. OK, there’s a database, but only as a place to store the code and the only table is a temporary one. Successful Movies Put Me Off

I was wandering around the net to find some of the most successful movies so that I can download and see it. I always have a belief that the trilogies are good to watch. I came across the movie Friday. The movie has a quite good profile. There around 12 to 13 parts of the movie right from 1980 till now. So I believed it will be good to watch and it also comes under my favorite genre “horror”. I downloaded all the parts in a single breath and started watching them. I couldn’t utter any word. All the parts have the same storyline and there was not much thrilling secrets to be revealed either. I got headache seeing the man in the mask. Because I neither get fear nor thrill watching that thing. I don’t know how they managed to run such a disgusting trilogy till now. I think the movie would have been somewhat successful in the box office due to the porn like scenes in almost every part of the movie. It is as if that the movie cannot be taken with those scenes on. So I recommend you people that before watching the movie please check out its IMDB and the response in red tomatoes to avoid headache. Good day!
