Art Gallery

For most people, buying art is as daunting as buying a home. It takes days of deliberation and careful financial planning. But artists are now out to change the notion that only those with deep pockets one can afford to buy art. Galleries are hosted for a sale of 1,001 works of art ranging from a mere Rs 25 to Rs 12 lakh till the end of this month. “I want people who have never bought art to visit the gallery,” says Lokhandwala. “The whole idea is to rummage and find something you like.” Sure enough, the gallery is full of surprises, from matchboxes and postcard-sized etchings to sculptures and paintings by masters like MF Husain and SH Raza.

The Fine Art Gallery mainly consists of older works that have belonged to the gallery since it first started in Vile Parle in 1995. After a six-year hiatus during which she acquired a Master’s as well as a PHd degree, Lokhandwala returned to India last year and reopened Lakeeren in Colaba. “The sale is a pause but also an occasion to reflect upon the past,” says a note. Be selective. Have a great day. I am expecting a good day at work. Let me hope for the best.
